-This chapter talks Fortune 500 corporations tend to see public relations as more of a strategic management tool.

NAMES OF DEPARTMENTS (not always called”public relations”)

-Different names are also used in the corporate, government agencies, educational institutions, and charitable organizations.

LINE. STAFF, TOP MANAGEMENT

  • Line: delegates authority or sets production by directly influencing work of others
  • Staff: Little to no direct authority. Uses suggestions, advice, and recommendations to indirectly affect the work of others.
  • Top management: formulates policies

PR FIRMS

-Found in every industrialized nation and most of the developing world.

-The U.S has the world’s most public relations firms

  • estimated 7,000 firms
  • including one or two-person operations
