T.O.W6: Newsworthy?

What does it mean for something to be “Newsworthy”?

I went online and researched what it means to be newsworthy and I came across a website called, Media College. This website explained what an editor goes through to decide if a story is “newsworthy”.The website describes five different criteria in which the story must meet a total of two of them.

  • Is this story new?

  • Is this story important?

  • Does this story hit close to home. stories that are closer in geographical area to us are more newsworthy

  • Famous people get more coverage rather than your best friend. no one cares if you failed rehab, but they would care if Lindsay Lohan does.

Human Interest

  • Aimes more towards emotion and may contradict others aspects of the newsworthy criteria.

A definition I found online about “newsworthy” is as states:

  • Of sufficient interest or importance to the public to warrant reporting in the media.
  • Source: The Free Dictionary
